The Eternal Bond: Unveiling the True Guru-Disciple Relationship

“In today’s world, some people believe that the Guru is a distant and unapproachable figure, sitting on a high throne, like the separation between high and low classes. However, this is not the truth. The Guru is always near to the disciple, in ways that we cannot imagine.
When the Guru and disciple share a strong connection, there is no need for the Guru to say, “I am your Guru, you are my disciple.” This bond is already evident in their hearts.
The Guru and disciple share their emotions and thoughts with each other. The Guru gives guidance to the disciple based on what they reveal in their heart. There are no boundaries or limitations in this relationship.

Even if we try to forget the Guru or push Him away from our lives, the connection between Guru and disciple remains, activating automatically whether we want it to or not.
Sometimes, we may forget the Guru, but He may visit us in our dreams or appear in our waking life.
The bond between Guru and disciple is like the bond between a father and child, or even greater than that, transcending all worldly relationships.”

“A Guru needs not be an old sage. Whether in the form of a Guru, an Eminence, or a Tulku, they are all embodiments of the Dharmakaya, manifested in the Nirmanakaya to impart wisdom to us. Thus, it matters not whether they appear as a child or an elder.
The way of teaching of the Guru is akin to that of a parent. There are times when the Guru is gentle and caring, while at other times, He may become stern and firm.
For myself, every time I meet my root Guru, His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, he always touches his cheek against mine, like the love of a father for his son.
Truly, there is no doubt, no hesitation in the Guru-disciple connection.”

“Typically, the Guru teaches at all times, while eating, walking, shopping, etc. Therefore, sometimes disciples think that the Guru is really just an ordinary person, because everything the Guru knows, they also know. “The Guru is truly a normal human being.” – they think.
Same these very disciples, when they come to other masters sitting on high thrones, with great titles, they might think, “This is truly receiving the Dharma, but those ordinary things from that other Guru are not!” That is truly a shallow thought. We forget that everything we have comes from our root Guru. What we think we have, what we understand, all of it is thanks to our root Guru. The disciples see what they have, but forget “how” they became like that.
Truly great Gurus will always teach their disciples from the smallest details, so that the disciples can maintain Mindfulness in all circumstances of life, no matter how subtle.
Understanding this, Samaya, which is the connection between Guru and disciple, will never be broken…”
